Suatu hari, di sebuah kota kecil, tampak seorang remaja tertarik melihat iklan lowongan pekerjaan sebagai pengantar barang di sebuah toko.

Anak itu pun kemudian menemui pemilik toko untuk melamar pekerjaan tersebut.

“Kami memang membutuhkan orang untuk membantu mengirimkan barang-barang pesanan ke pelanggan,” kata pemilik toko.

“Mengenai pekerjaan ini, bolehkan saya mengajukan enam pertanyaan kepada bapak?” tanya remaja itu kepada pemilik toko.

“Silakan,” jawab pemilik toko.

“Pertama, berapa gaji bulanan yang akan saya terima? Kedua, jam berapa mulai bekerja dan sampai pukul berapa? Ketiga, berapa lama waktu yang diberikan untuk istirahat dan makan siang setiap harinya? Lalu keempat, berapa hari libur selama setahun? Dan kelima, berapa biaya pengobatan yang diberikan apabila saya sakit?” tanya anak tersebut.

Setelah pemilik toko menjawab kelima pertanyaan tersebut dengan jelas. Si anak mengajukan pertanyaannya yang keenam, “Apakah ada sepeda yang bisa digunakan untuk tugas mengantar barang ke pelanggan?”

“Wah, kami tidak menyediakan sepeda untuk mengantarkan barang barang itu, tetapi…..” Belum selesai pertanyaan dijawab, si anak memotong ucapan pemilik toko.

“Oh, kalau begitu saya tidak jadi melamar pekerjaan ini.” Kemudian dia bergegas pergi meninggalkan toko.

Dua jam kemudian, ada seorang remaja lain yang datang ke toko tersebut dengan maksud sama seperti remaja sebelumnya, yaitu mengisi lowongan pekerjaan di toko tersebut.

Setelah tahu jenis pekerjaan yang ditawarkan, si anak pun setuju untuk mulai bekerja d sana.

“Apakah kamu perlu tahu berapa gaji disini?” tanya pemilik toko dengan ramah.

“Tidak perlu,” jawab pelamar itu dengan sopan.

“Saya lihat bapak adalah orang yang baik dan bijaksana, pasti akan memberi gaji yang layak kepada saya. Lagi pula, saya membutuhkan pekerjaan untuk mendapatkan uang untuk membantu ibu saya. Asal saya bisa mengisi lowongan pekerjaan di sini, saya sudah senang sekali.”

Melihat kesungguhan remaja ini, pemilik toko pun berkata, “Dua jam yang lalu ada orang seusiamu yang datang kemari untuk menanyakan beberapa hal mengenai pekerajaan ini. Semua pertanyaan sudah saya jawab. Saat saya sedang menjawab pertanyaannya yang keenam, yaitu adakah sepeda yang disediakan untuk pengantaran barang, saya jawab tidak ada. Dan pelamar kerja tadi langsung pergi begitu saja…Perlu kamu ketauhi, saya memang tidak menyediakan sepeda, tetapi ada sebuah motor baru yang saya sediakan untuk mengantarkan barang. Bagaimana? Kamu siap bekerja keras kalau saya menerima kamu bekerja di sini?”

Dengan senyum lebar si anak menjawab, ”Terima kasih Pak, saya siap bekerja keras!”

Apa perbedaan dua remaja pencari pekerjaan tadi? Mereka mempunyai kesempatan yang sama dan pekerjaan yang sama pula. Akan tetapi, cara berpikir dan sikap mereka yang berbeda, membuat pelamar pertama kehilangan kesempatan bekerja yang sudah ada di depan matanya.

Sementara pelamar kedua dengan sikap yang lebih positif, akhirnya mendapatkan kesempatan bekerja dengan fasilitas yang memadai.

Dalam bekerja, yang kita butuhkan bukan sekadar menuntut apa yang akan kita terima, tetapi harus dimulai dengan apa yang mampu kita beri.

Sebenarnya, kita bukan sekadar bekerja untuk atasan atau bos, tetapi lebih dari itu, kita bekerja untuk diri kita sendiri sesuai dengan tanggung jawab dan kepercayaan yang diberikan kepada kita.

Dengan sikap mental bekerja seperti itu, tentu integritas dan kemajuan karir kita akan terbangun secara mantap.
