Menghindari Kebodohan

Alkisah, ada seorang murid baru yang diperintah oleh gurunya untuk mengambil air di dekat sebuah sumur yang terletak di belakang perguruan.

Si murid pun bergegas menuju ke belakang untuk melaksanakan tugas yang diperintahkan. Tanpa berpikir panjang atau mempelajari situasi di sekitar sana, pikiran dan langkah kakinya langsung tertuju pada sumur dan ember untuk menimba air.

“Aha… itu dia ember kosong dan talinya,” serunya. Dengan gembira, dia pun mulai memegang tali dan mengayunkan ember ke dalam sumur. Tetapi sampai tali yang dipegang di tangan hampir tiba di ujung, dirasakan ember nya tetap kosong, tidak juga menyentuh air di dalam sumur. Maka dia melakukan usaha lebih keras.

Tubuhnya ikut dilengkungkan ke bawah seraya matanya menatap nanar berusaha menembus kegelapan sumur sambil tangannya sibuk mengayun-ayunkan ember.

Tetapi tetap saja tidak ada apa pun yang tersentuh ember di bawah sana.  Panas yang terik dan usaha sepenuh hati yang dilakukan berkali-kali membuat keringat mengucur deras membasahi bajunya.

Murid itu pun mulai merasa kesal dan jengkel. Usahanya berkali-kali dan keinginannya untuk tidak menyerah tetapi tidak membawa hasil seperti yang diharapkan, membuat emosinya semakin memuncak.

Dari kejauhan, sang guru menyaksikan ulah si murid. Dengan senyum sabarnya dihampiri si murid. Melihat kedatangan gurunya, si murid segera berkata lantang, “Guru, saya sudah berusaha menimba air tetapi kelihatannya sumur ini sudah kering. Jika sumur ini tidak berair, mengapa Guru memerintahkan saya untuk mengambil air?”

Gurunya balik bertanya, “Berapa kali kamu menimba?”

Si murid menjawab dengan emosi, “Sudah berkali-kali. Lihat saja bajuku sampai basah kuyup begini!”

Sang Guru berkata lagi, “Kalau kamu merasa sumur itu kosong, mengapa harus terus menimba? Kamu marah, ya? Kemarahanmu sampai menutup kesadaran dan akal sehatmu ya?” Plaaaak!  Kepala si murid pun dipukul oleh sang Guru.

“Lihat ke samping sumur itu, di sana ada keran air. Tinggal dibuka krannya, airpun mengalir. Guru suruh kamu mengambil air di dekat sumur, bukan menimba di sumur!”

Seketika wajah si murid merah padam… dia merasa malu sekaligus merasa begitu bodoh karena telah membuang energi dan kemarahan tidak pada tempatnya.

Sering kali kita sibuk mengumbar emosi dan kemarahan, menyalahkan orang lain dan keadaan, tanpa alasan yang jelas dan benar. Karenanya, terkadang kita perlu mendapat “kesadaran” (baik dari diri sendiri maupun orang lain) agar terhindar dari kebodohan dan kesalahan yang tidak bijak. Sehingga,  tidak perlu ada sesal di kemudian hari yang akan membebani langkah kita ke depan.
